Diana Rowe, a successful freelance writer for more than a decade, and Rob Reuteman, former business editor at the Rocky Mountain News and now a regular contributor to Entrepreneur magazine, are among the experts who will share their experience and knowledge of the world of freelance writing in the Colorado Authors’ League’s first program of the season.
The panel discussion, titled “Here Comes The Pitch – How To Succeed As A Freelance Writer”, will kick off CAL’s “Second Saturday” Series on Saturday, September 13th. The program will be held at Front Range Community College, 3645 W. 112th Ave., Westminster, from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Panelists will discuss what every freelance writer needs to know, including:
~Fees and rights
~Challenges of reporting as a non-staffer
~What editors expect
CAL members can attend this dynamic program for only $20 if they register online no later than Wednesday, September 10th. After that, CAL members pay $30 at the door the day of the program. The costs for non-members are $30 in advance and $40 at the door.
Rowe has written leisure travel, business and sports articles for dozens of magazines during the past 15 years, including Global Traveler Magazine, Latitudes, the in-flight magazine of American Eagle, Persimmon Hill and American Cowboy. In this role she has learned to juggle several assignments and publications simultaneously. She also writes for several Internet sites, among them Traveling Mom.com, Scoop.com and BusinessTravelDestinations.com. She is an active member of the Society of American Travel Writers. She also offers a variety of writing services, and has written short stories and novel-length fiction.
Reuteman brings the unusual dual perspective of writer and editor. He was business editor and columnist at the Rocky Mountain News for 12 years before the paper closed in 2009. His service with the paper dated to 1983. He was president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers in 2010-11. He currently teaches at Colorado State University. In addition to writing for Entrepreneur magazine, he has contributed extensively to CNBC.com and FoxBusiness.com.
