A packed room of attendees joined a talented panel of freelance writers and publication editors at CAL’s first program of the 2014-2015 year, “Here Comes the Pitch: How to Succeed as a Freelance Writer.” The panel was made up of a mix of editors and freelance writers so that topics could be addressed from both perspectives. See our panel members below and hear what attendees had to say:
Rob Reuteman, contributor to Entrepreneur magazine
“This was fantastic, hearing both sides – the editors and freelancers. I learned a lot more about how to –make a pitch than I thought. I loved the handouts.”
Rachel Cernansky, freelance writer for local and national print and electronic publications
“Very valuable. I liked the Q&A/panel format. Found the “true-to-life” stories/examples very informative;. Liked the mix of editors and freelancers.”
Starting with this month’s program, you will find audio files in the Members Only Section of the web site audio files from CAL’s programs. To access the audio files, hover your cursor over the “Members Only Section” button on the menu bar and then click on the drop-down menu for “CAL Program Audio Clips” and enter the page password. (Or click here for a shortcut.) This page gives a summary of the event, including speaker information, and then links you to the specific audio files for the program. As we add more content, you’ll find the newest program on top, but can always scroll through past programming to listen to any segment you’d like to hear again.
This year’s program quality would not be what it is without the dedication of co-VP/Programs Christine Goff and Denny Dressman, who also served as the moderator of the freelance program. We hope to see you at our next Second Saturdays program on October 11th from 8:30-12:30: “Sizzle! Sizzle! The Creative Side of Selling a Book.”
