Colorado Authors’ League has gathered four book marketing experts in their fields to offer insights for both traditionally published and self-published authors in the program “Sizzle! Sizzle! The Creative Side of Selling a Book.” The program will be held on October 11th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood. It is the second program in CAL’s Second Saturday Series.
Members and non-members who attended CAL’s first program said that one of highlights was hearing the different viewpoints from experts with different backgrounds on the panel and being able to ask them your specific question. The marketing program will follow the same format.
The panel will include book publicist Jen Halligan, owner of Jen Halligan PR and a graduate of the Denver University Publishing Institute; Scott Johnson, who launched Sputnik Design Works in 2000 and has designed hundreds of books and publications; Terry Wright, a local independent publisher and author of several thriller novels; and Nate Guy, a bookseller for Barnes & Noble who can draw from his experience seeing how readers react to books on shelves every day.
Among the topics they will address are how to choose a title and sub-title; how to obtain and craft endorsement copy; how to write back-cover and jacket flap copy; what to include in designing promotional flyers; press releases—what to say, and where to send them; use of review copies; utilizing social media; and maximizing your online and social media presence.

To get to the community room from parking:
BEST: From the main or south parking lot (as the signage shows) and come in the west entrance near the bookstore, there is a set of stairs right inside that entrance that will end at the community room.
From the main entrance, you will need to head west down the main hallway and take the stairs on the right.
From the east parking lot (the first one off of the frontage road), come in that entrance, walk down a long hallway to the same set of stairs on the right and head down.
