CAL’s second program of the year, “Sizzle! Sizzle! The Creative Side of Selling a Book,” offered attending authors a wealth of insight about marketing tools and strategies for selling their new books. The panel included Scott Johnson, founder of Sputnik Design Works; Nate Guy, Barnes & Noble bookseller; Jen Halligan of Jen Halligan PR; and Terry Wright, local author and publisher.
Some of the topics discussed in the wide-ranging program were the secrets of designing a successful book cover; what types of titles attract readers and shoppers; the value of awards and testimonials in promoting your book; how to sell your book at a book signing; and the best use of an author’s funds for marketing.
CAL’s next program in the Second Saturday Series will be Saturday, January 10th (site to be determined). In “The Business of Writing: Negotiating a Book Deal,” a panel of a book agent, a local publisher and a author-attorney will examine the do’s and don’t’s of how to find an agent, traditional vs. independent publishing, signing a contract, the ebook dimension, and understanding advances, rights and royalties.
