Beverly Haley Hadden has recently published War Bonds–remembering one small town in America during WWII, a Penstemon Publications book. World War II finds 15-year-old Betsy Blakesly immersed in the war effort on the home front — the man shortage, scrap drives, bond sales, rationing stamps, radio broadcasts, air raid warnings, blackouts, and running a bicycle delivery service. During the summer of 1943, news comes that a prisoner-of-war camp will be built near the farming town of Plainsview, Colorado where Betsy lives with her family. Suddenly the enemy has landed in her own back yard. The book is published under her maiden name, Beverly Jones, and is for readers ages 10-14.
