CAL board secretary Cheryl Carpinello is definitely a hands-on personality, right down to continuing her habit of writing out first drafts of her Arthurian children’s fiction in long-hand. Right now she’s toiling over her third Arthurian manuscript. To help her capture the look and feel of the old realm, Cheryl combined a vacation with a trip to Wales last year, where she was invited to speak at Manorbier Castle.
This is Cheryl’s first year as CAL secretary. She made an impression on many members the last two Christmas seasons for her volunteer work in CAL’s Holiday Mart book booth. Hands-on again, Cheryl spent most of the long weekend on her feet, standing in front of the booth, handing out author flyers and guiding shoppers to books. So how has CAL helped the high school English teacher: “It’s been encouraging to meet other authors and be able to talk shop with them,” she says. “The workshops CAL has done this year have kept me focused on my writing.”
