WHEREAS, the Colorado Authors’ League was founded in Denver in 1931, with Arthur Hawthorne Carhart as its first president, and the League has called Denver home for more than eight decades; and
WHEREAS, through its long history, books by the members of the Colorado Authors’ League have been the basis for more than 40 motion pictures and have been recognized numerous times by the Colorado Book Awards and as New York Times best-sellers; and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Authors’ League’s distinguished current membership includes Lois Beebe Hayna, Clive Cussler, Margaret Coel, Rex Burns and Phyllis Perry; and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Authors’ League presents the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award to Margaret Coel and the Author Advocate Award to Arapahoe Library District research librarian Pamela Hallaren; and
WHEREAS, the City and County of Denver congratulates the Colorado Authors’ League for 85 years of service and support to the writers of our Colorado community.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Michael B. Hancock, Mayor of the City and County of Denver, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby officially proclaim this day, May 6, 2016, to be known as:
“COLORADO AUTHORS’ LEAGUE DAY”
