Master the Memoir: 7 Writing Steps to Success

Presenter: Patricia Raybon
What’s the difference between autobiography and memoir? Between meaningful self-reflection and revengeful or aimless rambling? Join award-winning author Patricia Raybon for a writer’s exploration of the first-person journey called the memoir. Journey is, in fact, a key concept here. Meaningful memoirs go places—from struggle and insight to surprise and resolution. But what steps help writers advance the journey? Join Patricia as she examines best-selling and beloved memoirs to unpack seven techniques and tools for turning a life dilemma or story into a high adventure to write and a sublime delight to read.

A former Denver Post magazine editor and Rocky Mountain News feature writer, Patricia Raybon is the award-winning author of My First White Friend (which won the Christopher Award), I Told the Mountain to Move (which was a 2006 Book of the Year Finalist in Christianity Today Magazine’s annual book awards competition), The One Year® God’s Great Blessings Devotional, Bound for Glory and co-author of Undivided: A Muslim Daughter, Her Christian Mother, Their Path to Peace. Her personal essays on family, race and faith have been published in The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, USA Today, Country Living Magazine, Guideposts and other periodicals, and have aired on National Public Radio.
