OPPORTUNITIES

Historical Fiction
Gibbs Smith, a publisher of forty-seven years, is seeking submissions for a new adult and children’s fiction venture to launch in fall 2018. We welcome completed historical fiction manuscripts, agented or unagented, set in North America—particularly those featuring Native American characters or lesser-known American historical figures or events. For detailed submission guidelines, please visit the website at www.gibbs-smith.com and click “Contact Us”. Queries and submissions may be addressed to Fiction Acquisitions Team at fiction@gibbs-smith.com.

Book Signing at The Learning Source
On October 12, 2016, The Learning Source will host the Book Bash, an evening of live music, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, silent auction, and awards at the Museum of Nature and Science in Denver. The Learning Source, a nonprofit agency supporting adults in Colorado, is committed to providing educational instruction and opportunities to adults whose lives are impacted by poverty, social justice issues, and other barriers to self-sufficiency. All of the funds raised from the Book Bash will be used to support The Learning Source’s work in our local community—in six counties and growing in our great state. As part of the Book Bash, we would like to have local authors join us for a book signing opportunity. We were graciously wondering if the Colorado Authors’ League had any authors available on that date who would donate their time to sign books for a few hours (even maybe at a discounted price) that evening. CONTESTS

VENUES FOR MARKETING YOUR BOOKS
Colorado Literary Network is a website devoted to promoting Colorado authors (website). It is currently and will always be a free service to authors and readers. The easiest way for an author to list themself and their books is to use the “Add my book” main menu item. From there, they fill out a single form with bio and book description. An author who wants full control over the content can create a login and use more advanced means to add and edit their content. Alternatively, an author can use “Add my book” and then create a login and “claim” the author entry. Disclosure: The website owner has an affiliate relationship with Kobo and may receive a commission on ebooks purchased from them via links on this site.

EDITING SERVICES
Michele Morris is an award winning cookbook author and editor, and is available to assist others with cookbook and recipe editing.

Leah Wohlfarth graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Humanities, with a focus on world literature. “I love to read, and proof read. I was always editing papers for my friends, and classmates, during college, which naturally lead me to my editing internship. I interned in the editing department at Andrews McMeel publishing in Kansas City, Missouri. Here is where I knew I would LOVE to do this as a career. Here, I gained experience editing manuscripts for memoirs, fiction, children’s fiction, cook books, and puzzles. I have been freelancing since 2014, and have added editing romance novels and short stories to my resume. Comma editing has become my passion, and I want to work very hard to make it a success, and most importantly to help the authors I edit for succeed!” Contact Leah through her website CommaEditing.weebly.com or email and contact Leah about a free sample edit to see if her services are right for you.
