Non-fiction writer and photojournalist by trade, Ericka Kastner has chosen writing as her primary art form since she developed a fondness for her first thesaurus at age 10. She finds herself extraordinarily lucky to be paid to write professionally. More than 400 of Ericka’s works have been published online and in print publications including Colorado Central Magazine, Colorado Life Magazine, The Chaffee County Times and The Mountain Mail.
Her career highlights include interviews with the artist Christo and Senator Mark Udall and being stung in the face by a bee smashed behind her camera while photographing 2,400,000 honeybees for a magazine assignment. Ericka traveled to Cuba in 2015 and spent her days wandering the streets, talking to the Cuban people so she could come home and tell their stories in print.
She lives in a loft in historic downtown Salida, Colorado with two of her children and loves wandering in the woods, experiencing big snows, digging in the dirt, and sharing a home-cooked meal with friends. Ericka envisions working as a travel writer once her children are grown.
In the meantime, she’ll travel anywhere on the globe for a story.
