Margi Evans at the Great American Book Festival

Over Labor Day Weekend, Margi Evans attended the Great American Book Festival in Rapid City, South Dakota as a guest of the Literary Classics Awards. She signed books in the Literary Classics booth that they sponsored for their award-winning authors. While there, Literary Classics held an elegant award’s ceremony during which Margi received their Silver Medal for her new book: “The Stone of Mercy-Book 1 of the Centaur Chronicles.”

New Sammi Jo Books Available for Pre-Order

The “re-do” of Sammi Jo and the Best Day Ever and Sammi Jo and the Best Rodeo Ever are now available on Kindle pre-orders on Amazon.  Print copies will be available on September 1, 2017. Book 3 – Sammi Jo and the Best Adventure Ever! will be starting pre-orders in Mid-September and print copies should be available by October 1!

WILLA Award for Soldier Sister, Fly Home

Women Writing the West has awarded  Soldier Sister, Fly Home the WILLA literary award in children’s and YA literature. This award is named in honor of Willa Cather, one of the first western women authors. Click here for more information.

Poems by Art Elser Published

Art Elser had two poems published in the Summer issue of The Avocet, “Rain After Years of Drought” and “Prairie Morning Challenge.” His poem “October 24th, 1962, 3:45 AM.” a poem about the Cuban Missile Crisis, was accepted for publication in the Passager Journal. Two poems, “We Called It Crossing the Fence” and “Tara’s Call of the Wild,” were also accepted for publication in High Plains Register. Art has been invited to discuss his process for writing poetry with the Windsor Gardens Book Club and will read some poetry from his two poetry books, We Leave the Safety of the Sea and A Death at Tollgate Creek.

Dead Stop, by Barbara Nickless

Dead Stop, by Barbara Nickless, the second book in the Sydney Parnell crime series, will be released by Thomas and Mercer on October 3rd. The first book in the series, Blood on the Tracks, won the Colorado Authors’ League Writing Award for genre fiction and the Colorado Book Award for mystery fiction, as well as being named a Suspense Magazine Best of 2016. Of Dead Stop, an early reviewer says, “A great follow-up to what was an exceptional debut in Blood on the TracksDead Stop does not disappoint.”

Robert McBrearty’s Short Story Accepted for Performance

Robert Garner McBrearty’s short story “The Dishwasher” has been accepted for a performance at “Now Hear This: A Story and Music Series” based in Sacramento, CA. The story previously won a Pushcart Prize, and an adaptation of the story won the one-act Maine Drama Festival.

Book Signing with Barbara Sparks

Noted photographer Barbara Sparks will be signing for her new coffee table photography book, FOR PURPLE MOUNTAINS;    Colorado, a Journey of the Senses, at Hooked on Books, 12 East Bijou, Colorado Springs, from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 16.  The book features 70 duotone prints and an introduction by Governor John Hickenlooper and Peter Dea.

Lake of Fire Selected as “Village Read” in Greenwood Village

This summer the Greenwood Village Cultural Arts Program partnered with Arapahoe Libraries to present the first ever “Village Read” and the group chose Lake of Fire by Mark Stevens as this year’s selection. Many activities are planned in August around the themes from the book. Join Mark for the Closing Celebration:

Meet New CAL Member Natasha Wing

Natasha Wing is the best-selling author of The Night Before series including titles: The Night Before Kindergarten and The Night Before Halloween. She’s been writing for more than 25 years and publishes both fiction and narrative nonfiction pictures books. Her latest title, When Jackie Saved Grand Central, received two starred reviews from Booklist and Kirkus. Wing has also self-published a picture about a snowboarding rabbit called Fresh Snow! and a pie recipe book for grown ups. She lives in Fort Collins with her husband, Dan, and cat, Purrsia, and saves prairie dogs.
