First Place Honors for “The Caddy”

CAL member Dennis Floyd’s essay “The Caddy” took first place honors in the non-fiction category of the Denver Women’s Press Club’s annual Unpublished Writer’s Contest. First, second and third-place prizes were also awarded in fiction and poetry categories. Floyd read an excerpt of the essay at the award ceremony held on April 8 at the Club’s headquarters. The essay is taken from Fore Seasons, A Collection of Stories about Life and Golf, a book he is writing as a member of a Denver Athletic Club Writing Group.

Speaking Engagements with Virginia White

Virginia White has been invited to speak at the Young Writer’s Conference on May 2 to be held at Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, CO. The Young Writers Conference is held for kindergarten through sixth grade students.  The goal is to get elementary students excited about writing.  Young writers from across Jefferson Country share their writing with peers.  They also have the opportunity to listen to an author, a Jeffco Library Reading Representative, and participate in the book fair.

Publishing Workshops with Judith Briles

Judith Briles has presented publishing workshops on Book Marketing to the Lake Chapala Writers Conference in Ajijic Mexico, the Las Vegas Writers Conference and the Oklahoma Writers Federation during the past month. The Satin Sash

Sheldon Friedman’s new book The Satin Sash, published in April 2017,  is now available on Amazon in hard back and for Kindle, as well as other E-Book web sites. The book is a sequel to The Velvet Prison, also available in hardback and Kindle on Amazon and other E-Book web sites. It is the second book in a trilogy. The Velvet Prison is a finalist in Best of Colorado Authors’ League fiction for 2016, and Sheldon is hard at work on the third book to be titled The Silk Swan.
